Ep 2 - The Pattern Established

Opening

Before you can understand what Jesus did, you need to understand what God did at Sinai. That is the conviction at the heart of this episode, and it is one of the most important things I have come to appreciate through this project.

What We Explored

In Episode 2, Dan walked us through the first fifty-five days of the Mosaic Covenant, from that original Passover night in Egypt, when every household selected a lamb, through the water crossing of the Red Sea, to the extraordinary moment on the fifty-fifth day when God descended on Mount Sinai in thunder and fire and spoke directly to the whole congregation of Israel.

What struck me most in our conversation was the precision of it all. God is not a God of approximation. Every detail was intentional. Every day was counted. Every element was chosen. A perfect lamb was selected and set apart. Its blood provided deliverance from death. The old life was left behind through a water crossing. Seven weeks of journeying followed. And on the fifty-fifth day, God proposed: Be mine.

Dan describes the Mosaic Covenant not as the final word but as the pattern for it. God was writing a language in those fifty-five days, a language He would speak again fifteen hundred years later, in the same city, at the same time of year, on the same days of the same calendar. He established the pattern precisely so that those who knew it would recognise its fulfilment when it came.

A MOMENT THAT STAYED WITH ME

There was a moment near the end of this episode where Dan said something simple that landed with real weight. He said that the one you hold in highest esteem is the one you will become like, take the time to look at Jesus. I have been sitting with that ever since. Because it is not just a statement about religion. It is a statement about every human lifThere is something deeply settling about understanding that God does not improvise. He planned. He prepared. He established a pattern long before the fulfilment arrived. That means nothing in your own story is wasted either. The things God has been doing in you over years and decades are preparation, not delay.e. We all have someone we are becoming like. The question is who.
