Some questions arrive quietly. They slip in through a side door of the mind and refuse to leave. For Dan Murphy, one such question formed while he was standing in the largest church in Papua New Guinea, watching thousands of faithful believers’ worship with genuine hunger and sincere hearts, and noticing, with a kind of quiet grief, that something was simply missing.
That moment became the beginning of a journey that would take Dan deep into Scripture and surface one of the most astonishing structural patterns in all of the Bible. What he found was this: fifteen hundred years before Jesus rode into Jerusalem, God established a covenant with Israel at the foot of Mount Sinai. That covenant unfolded over exactly fifty-five days, from the selection of the Passover lamb on the tenth of Nisan, to the thundering glory of God at Shavuot. And then, fifteen hundred years later, to the exact day, God did it again.
Same structure. Same sequence. Same fifty-five days. But infinitely greater.
In our first episode together, Dan and I began unpacking what this means and why it matters. The pattern God established at Sinai was not incidental. It was intentional. A blueprint, written in fire and blood, so that those with eyes to see would recognise its fulfilment when it came. And recognising that fulfilment changes everything about how we read the story of Jesus and how we understand what it means to enter into relationship with God.
I remember the moment in our conversation when Dan said that the pattern was established so that people would recognise the fulfilment and develop intimacy with God himself. That sentence sat with me long after we stopped recording. How much of Scripture have we seen without truly looking? How much has God hidden in plain sight, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice?
